Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is the only federal economic immigration program that prioritizes workers in trades occupations for immigration to Canada. It allows competent tradespeople from all around the world to permanently move to Canada.

Furthermore, due to labour shortages in many skilled trades occupations across Canada, the Government of Canada expedites Federal Skilled Trades Program applications through the Express Entry immigration system, which allows immigrants to enter the country in as little as a few months.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The first step is to check if you qualify as a skilled trade worker according to the federal government. The eligibility criteria for this program is explained briefly below To be eligible to apply, you must meet the program requirements.

Language Skills

Ability to communicate in English or French

CLB 5 is a level of proficiency in speaking and listening.

CLB 4 is the reading and writing level.

Type/Level of work experience

Under key groups of NOC B, Canadian or international expertise in a skilled trade is required.

Amount of work experience

Within the last five years, there have been two years (either combination of full-time or part-time work)

Within the last five years, there have been two years (either combination of full-time or part-time work)

Job offer

A legitimate full-time job offer from a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal government, or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade from a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority.

Education

It is not required.
