Express Entry

Canada has one of the world’s most welcoming immigration policies, welcoming about 200,000 newcomers each year. According to a recent international study, 53% of adults in the world’s 24 most populous countries stated they would immigrate to Canada. While Canada has a diverse range of federal and provincial immigration schemes, the main driver of the Canadian immigration system – Express Entry – has increased the popularity of immigration to the country. Candidates who apply through Express Entry gain priority processing and increased access to jobs in a wider range of fields.

Because of its ease and rapid processing times, the Express Entry program is one of the most popular and sought-after ways to move to Canada. Express Entry is perfect for talented workers who desire to make Canada their permanent home.

All Economic Class programs aim to attract immigrants to Canada who will be able to make a living in the country.

The Express Entry system manages a variety of immigration programs, each with its own set of eligibility requirements.

STEPS EXPLAINED

The regulations for controlling the Express Entry application management system are outlined by Ministerial Instructions. The Express Entry system has two steps:

Step 1) Potential candidates complete an online Express Entry profile

Candidates will fill up an Express Entry profile online. This is a secure form on which they will enter information about their

  • Abilities
  • work experience
  • language proficiency
  • education
  • and other factors that will assist us in evaluating them.

Those who match the eligibility requirements of one of the federal immigration programmes indicated above will be placed in a pool of applicants.

Anyone who does not already have a job offer accompanied by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) (if one is required) or a nomination from a province or territory must register with ESDC’s Job Bank. Express Entry candidates will be able to connect with suitable employers in Canada through Job Bank.

Candidates are also urged to use other methods to promote themselves to employers, such as job boards, recruiters, and so on.

Employers will need an LMIA from ESDC in order for a job offer to be valid in Express Entry and gain points. Employers must use the LMIA process to ensure that they have made an effort to hire Canadians and permanent residents for open positions. For permanent resident applications, there will be no LMIA charge.

Note that being accepted into the Express Entry pool does not guarantee that a candidate will get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. Candidates must still meet Canada’s immigration law’s eligibility and admission conditions (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).

Step 2) The highest-ranking candidates in the pool will be invited to apply for permanent residence

Candidates will be ranked against others in the pool using the Comprehensive Ranking Approach, which is a point-based system. The information on their profile is used to grant points.

An Invitation to Apply will be sent to the candidates with the best scores in the pool.

  • A job offer
  • a nomination by a province or territory and/or skills
  • and experience factors

will all earn candidates points.

A candidate can earn bonus points if they have

  • a job offer that is backed up by a Labour Market Impact Assessment,
  • or if they are nominated by a province or territory.

These extra points will boost a candidate’s ranking sufficiently for them to be invited to apply in the following round of invitations.

If someone is invited to apply, they will have 60 days to complete an online permanent residency application.

The majority of full applications (those with all the supporting documents) will be processed in six months or less by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Candidates are allowed to stay in the pool for up to a year. They may submit a fresh profile if they do not get an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence within 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile.
